HIV Medication List

This is a list of HIV medications with a description of them, their side effects, and what each pill looks like. The descriptions of the HIV medication's side effects only includes the most commonly experienced ones.

Abacavir

Abacavir (Ziagen, Trizivir, Kivexa, Epzicom) The side effects have been moderate hypersensitivity has been the most common side effect, and there has been servere cases. Genetic can help determine if a indivdual might become hyper sensitive 90% have been able to take Abacavir safely. The risk of heart attack has also been shown to be increased when taking Abacavir. Abacavir is a yellow oblong pill with GX 623 scored on it.

Indinavir

Indinavir (Crixivan) Indinavir is a part of a HAART and is taken with other HIV medications. Indinavir is a old drug and is gradually being replaced with other more convenient retro vials that can be taken fewer times a day. The new drugs are lopinavir and atazanavir. Side effects include kidney stones and elevated cholesterol. The Pill is a white capisule with Crixivan stamped on it.

Saquinavir

Saquinavir (Invirase, Fortovase) This medication comes as a capsule and requires Ritonavir to make it effective. The second form of this medication is a soft gel that does not required any supplemental HIV medication. Both are used in HART. It has 2 different forms that it comes in and has 2 completely different looking pills. One is white oblong capisule with a e on it, the other is a orange/tan pill with ROCHE scored into it.

Tenofovir

Tenofovir (Viread, Truvada, Emtriva.) Tenofovir blocks a enzyme that helps in HIV virus production. Tenofovir is taken only once daily dosing and is used in HART. Tenofovir must be taken with other HIV medications in order to be effective. Tenofovir is a bright blue pill with Gilead 4331 scored on it.
