Do You Believe In The Herbal Hype?

In China, herbal method has been treated for along time. Nowadays, it's not strange if American use that treatment. There is a fast-growing interest among people today regarding alternative medicines and therapies. This interest includes the herbal remedies and dietary supplements market. In fact, it's a safe bet that many large supermarkets in your local area feature an aisle or two specifically for natural medicines alone. A quick browse through the World Wide Web about health problems and topics will reveal advertisements and articles about natural health products that claim to help consumers with everything from migraines to sexual deficiencies.

When they are used properly in combination with a patient's overall health regimen, these natural health products can be effective and safe. More and more people are observed to be taking an active part in taking care of their health, and this is a good thing. What makes it a problem, though, is the lack of information that patients sometimes have, especially when it comes to self-presciption medicines. With that in mind, it is valuable to know the following rules-of-thumb regarding botanicals and herbal remedies:

Don't immediately think that taking a natural medicine is safe for you. Alternative medicines from plants or herbs can also be dangerous when taken improperly. These natural medicines are usually needed to be taken in strong dosages, or at least strong enough to be effective. It's good to remember that they also have contra-indications, just like other medicines. Usually these contra-indications happen when abnormally large dosages are taken, or if the herb is taken over a prolonged amount of time.

Goji Berries are getting much acclaim lately for being health food products, usually marketed as either Himalayan goji or Tibetan goji. One source indicates that Goji Berries have been a mainstay of Traditional Chinese Medicine for around 1,900 years already. According to Chinese legend, Goji Berries were also used by Shen Nung who is believed to have been the First Emperor of China. Goji Berries are now considered a health food because research has shown that it has antioxidants and nutrients aplenty, which may explain why Goji Berries are also now classified as one of the superfruits. Demand for superfruits like Goji Berries is expected to reach the billion-dollar mark by year 2011.

The Goji Berries you may be familiar with are usually of an ellipsoidal shape and bright red, with each of the Goji Berries filled with up to sixty seeds. Goji Berries that are planted in countries in the Northern Hemisphere may ripen in the months of July, August, September and October.

Nowadays, Goji Berries are planted in commercial quantities in north central China (in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region) and in western China (in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.) The size of a typical plantation of Goji Berries can start at 100 acres and extend to up to 1000 acres in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Ningxia has been found to produce some of the top Goji Berries variety which are sometimes called the red diamonds commercial variety.

5 Tips to Avoid Foreclosure

Getting served with a Foreclosure notice is not something any of us would wish for, but in today's economy it's becoming more and more frequent. The stress caused by an impending foreclosure can affect your health, both mental and physical, and that of other family members too.

So before you give up in despair, be aware of the fact that there are ways you can avoid foreclosure, saving both your home and your credit rating as well.

The first option is to refinance your mortgage. There are many lenders who specialize in taking on high risk and/or high ratio mortgages. Seek them all out, you may find a sympathetic ear, especially if you can present a plan of repayment that satisfies the prospective lenders criteria. You may not find the terms as favorable as your existing mortgage, but it may be the solution to your dilemma.

The second method you may choose to exercise would be to contact a private investor, some of whom would be willing to take over the payments on the property, thereby relieving you of the obligation. Although you would still be losing the home, you would be avoiding the stigma of a foreclosure, and there is always the possibility you could arrange terms with your investor such that you would continue to live in the home.

A third choice would be to find someone to rent the home from you at a monthly rental sufficient to service your mortgage commitment. This could involve renting out the entire property or only a portion, say a room(s) or a basement perhaps. This could possibly give you the required additional funds in order to continue keeping up payments on the mortgage.

Another way would be to sell then home privately, thus pre-empting the foreclosure. You may want to investigate private selling resources, so you can get away from having to pay a sizeable commission to a real estate agency. Many people have sold their own homes, there's no reason why you can't too!

Finally, there is the drastic step of bankruptcy. Many jurisdictions allow you to keep your private residence in this event. Check with your local authorities to be sure this is an option for you before you proceed with this final option.

Be sure you explore all possibilities before you give up your home to foreclosure. Remember how hard it was to get the down payment together to buy in the first place? It will be even harder after a foreclosure if you want to do it again. With some thought, and a little planning you can pull it off.

Improve Brain Function with Omega-3 Fish Oil

When a person has healthy brain, he/she can have a better memory and concentration. He/she will also be better in managing stress and increases his/her calmness. His/her creativity will even improve. The performance of our brain relies greatly on our diet.

Good things for the brain The brain has favorites. It has to have the following: oxygen, glucose and omega-3 fatty acids.

Bad things for the brain The brain has dislikes. The following are not good for the brain: inflammation, breaking out of neurotransmitters, and too much amount of cortisol.

Higher and more prolonged levels of cortisol in the bloodstream (like those associated with chronic stress) have been shown to have negative effects, such as impaired cognitive performance, suppressed thyroid function, blood sugar imbalances such as hyperglycemia, decreased bone density, decrease in muscle tissue and higher blood pressure.

How fish oil pills benefit the brain. The brain works with good nutrition. Believe it or not fish oil is good for the brain as it operates in the increasing of the dopamine levels. Dopamine has something to do with the pathways of the brain. It helps in the reduction of the indirect pathway and works otherwise for the direct pathway. The effect of this is that the action hormone of the brain is increased. This translates to an increased and better concentration. In your daily activities, it will benefit you since it enables you to focus better on your priorities. We need the best supplements for our brain health.

Omega 3 from fish oil also benefits the brain in the area of the brain's memory. In medical terms, stress is a result of too much amount of hormone cortisol which causes detriments to the memory and nerve cells of the brain.

When it comes to stress management, it is necessary to have a stable level of blood sugar. Inadequacy of blood sugar level will lead to the increase of cortisol level. However, increased blood sugar level is also beneficial since it aids in stress management.

Another composition is called serotonin which can affect the mood of an individual; low serotonin level sometimes lead to depression. An increase in the serotonin level of a person may improve his/her mood. This also has something to do with a person's calmness. The calmer such a person gets, the better he/she manages stress. The less stressed he/she is, the more capable he/she becomes creative.

Besides improving the brain function, there are many other health benefits of omega-3 fish oil for both children and adults to improve heart function, mental illness, learning ability, behavior disorder, cancer prevention and more.

Take the best supplements to improve brain function. The better brain health you have, the better life you'll live. Start with consuming the food that contains the nutrients the brain loves.

Create Wealth by Releasing Negative Emotions - The Sedona Method

An important step in creating wealth, as well as in creating the life of your choice, is to release any emotions that get in the way of attaining the things that you want. The Sedona Method is a simple, yet powerful, easy-to-learn technique that helps you let go of any negative, uncomfortable or painful emotions you may be experiencing at any particular moment.

Trying to get ahead in life while feeling negative emotions such as anger, fear, or anxiety, is like pushing the gas pedal of your car while the handbrake is on. You may be able to move forward, but it will take an enormous amount of effort and energy and you won't get very far. To reach your goals you need to release the resistance, or the negative feelings, that have stopped you in the past.

The Sedona Method consists of a series of questions you ask yourself that lead your awareness to focus on what you're feeling in the moment and gently guide you toward letting it go. Unplugging negative emotions produces a shift so that your emotional energy can work for you, instead of against you. Having better relationships, a more fulfilling and rewarding career, a higher income, better emotional well-being, and better health are easy to have once you release the negative emotions that prevent you from having these things. Once you learn the process, you can use it at any time and at any place.

Sedona Method graduates worldwide have reported the following results: * Financial freedom and success. * Improved relationships. * Reduced stress levels. * Freedom from depression, anxiety, fear, anger, and other emotional challenges. * More energy. * Better health and a sense of vitality. * And much, much more.

As stated previously, the Sedona Method helps you reach your goals by releasing any negative beliefs you may have which are preventing you from being able to attain the things you want. It can also help you heal the wounds of your past so that you don't continue to drag the weight of your past into your present. Negative episodes from your past can take your attention away from creating the life you desire, shackling you to situations in the past which make you feel resentment, regret, guilt, blame, and anger.

You can "let go" of years of mental programs and accumulated feelings in just seconds using the Sedona Method's unique techniques. When an unwanted emotion or feeling of resistance comes up, you simply release it. With the limiting feeling out of the way, you're free to create any result you desire, whenever you want.

One way to use The Sedona Method is to help you reach your financial goals, such as creating wealth. Often, people form the intent to achieve wealth, they set well-defined financial goals for themselves, and then they go about taking the necessary steps to reach those goals. However, they soon sabotage themselves in their attempts by the beliefs they hold in their subconscious.

If you set the goal of becoming wealthy while holding the belief that you don't deserve wealth, or that you're not smart enough to be wealthy, or that creating wealth requires making enormous sacrifices, you simply won't allow yourself to be rich. It's like trying to cultivate a garden which is run over by weeds, or trying to keep a plant healthy when it's infested with bugs.

So how can The Sedona Method help you create wealth? After reviewing your financial goals you can practice The Sedona Method to help you release any hesitancy or resistance that may come up toward those goals caused by your belief system. This resistance could be in the form of uneasiness, insecurity, doubt, or frustration. In fact, any feeling that is not positive or empowering is a form of resistance. Releasing the negative beliefs and emotions that stand in your way helps clear the way for you to create wealth and attract abundance into your life.

Once you've released your negative beliefs and feelings about money, and about your worthiness to attract money, you'll be starting off with a clean slate on which you can write anything you want. Go ahead and envision a life filled with all the wealth you can imagine and move forward toward the creation of that life without your negative mental programming and feelings holding you back.

Benefits of inhaled asthma medicines

How can inhaled medicines help asthmatics? One important benefit is that they help you save money in the long run and keep you away from the hospital.

This is good news for asthmatics considering that the health-related costs of asthma are great. The disease results in less income due to less productivity from lost days at work.

In New South Wales, for example, asthma is one of the top ten reasons for visits to doctors and accounted for 55,000 emergency room visits to public hospitals. In Sweden, persons with asthma accounted for 23,000 hospital admissions, while in the United States, asthma is responsible for more than 460,000 hospitalizations and 1.8 million emergency department visits.

By relieving symptoms and preventing further attacks, inhaled medicines reduce the need for hospitalization and they allow patients to live normal, productive lives.

Bronchodilators are used to treat asthma flare-ups and acute attacks and help prevent exercise-induced asthma. They are often used only when you feel it is needed or when you have symptoms less than once or twice a week. In moderate or severe attacks, they can be used more often but no more than 3 or 4 times a day.

To treat moderate to severe persistent asthma, inhaled steroids are usually prescribed. Since they don’t act immediately, they must be taken regularly every day. They won’t prevent attacks if you take them only during flare-ups. When used daily, studies show that these controllers improve lung function, reduce symptoms, reduce the frequency and severity of attacks, and improve the quality of life.

Generally, inhaled medicines have fewer side effects than their oral counterparts. Common side effects include a fast heart beat, muscular shaking and nervousness. These side effects are transient and usually disappear with continued use. There is no need to stop your medicine.

Likewise, inhaled steroids have little side effects. The most common are mouth and throat irritation accompanied by coughing or an oral yeast infection (thrush). These can be eliminated by using a spacer (a large plastic cone attached to the inhaler) and by gargling with water after each use.

Keep a diary of your symptoms and any side effects you’re experiencing. Show this to your doctor to get the most out of every consultation and follow the prescribed dose. Don’t overuse your medicines. Your doctor can help you only if you take an active role in controlling asthma.

How do you fill up an asthma diary? Find out in the 8th part of our series. Don’t miss it!

Since obesity is bad for asthmatics, keep your weight down to a healthy level. You can do this with the help of Zyroxin, a safe and natural supplement that will maximize your weight loss through its unique fat-burning ingredients. For details, visit http://www.zyroxin.com/.

How Do I Possibly Eat All Those Fruits and Vegetables?

Copyright (c) 2008 At Peace With Food
You want to improve your eating, but you just don't know if you can eat a crock of broccoli or a head of romaine lettuce. You want to reduce your heart disease risk, but the idea of steaming vegetables for each meal just doesn't sit well with you.

Not only do you feel guilty about not wanting to eat these profoundly healthy products, you don't even know which recommendations to follow-there are so many! You hear amounts anywhere from 5 servings/day to 9-14 servings/day. You hear these foods will treat anything from heart disease to high blood pressure (which you will surely get from reading articles about foods you don't like to eat). You know all these things, and yet---you still don't know how to manage any of this.

Let me try to help you.

First, let me explain where these numbers come from. The "5 a day" is a recommendation from the National Cancer Institute. Research suggests that following these recommendations you may be able to reduce your risk of certain types of cancer. Whether it is the plant chemicals involved in cancer reduction, or the fact that eating more fruits and vegetables means consuming less protein and saturated fat (primarily from animal products), populations of people following these guidelines seem to have lower cancer rates.

The "9-14 servings/day" resulted from the DASH study, the Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension. This study showed that consuming between 9 and 14 servings of vegetables and fruits each day helped reduce blood pressure as much as certain medications. If you are taking blood pressure medications, talk to your health care provider before trying this diet-but it is certainly worth considering if you have experienced side effects from your medication.

Before I go further, let me just tell you that if you want to try this approach, you should know is considered a serving size. This way you won't worry about spending your entire budget at the produce counter. A serving of fruit is about the size of a baseball or 4 ounces of juice; a serving of vegetables is ½ cup of cooked or 1 cup of fresh vegetables.

Now, let's talk about some ways to sneak these foods into your daily meal plan.

What about using a banana instead of jelly the next time you make a peanut butter sandwich? A medium sized banana counts as two servings of fruit.

While it may not seem like much, how about a few pieces of fresh spinach or Boston lettuce on your next roast beef sandwich? It adds crunch, and also a half of a serving of vegetables.

Do you like spaghetti? Why not try cooking some carrots until they are really soft, then blending them in with your spaghetti sauce? Sautéing onions in a little olive oil also adds vegetables to your sauce-and helps reduce your risk of chronic disease.

How about soup? One way I get my son to eat vegetables is to cook LOTS of vegetables (carrots, broccoli, onions, potatoes) in broth, then blending the entire mixture and serving it in a bowl. Using frozen vegetables reducing the cooking time, if you are in a rush.

If you want to add fruits, as well as bone building calcium, how about fruit smoothies? You can mix frozen berries (or unfrozen bananas) with low fat vanilla yogurt and there you have it! A snack that's good for your heart, your bones, and most importantly, your taste buds.

While I don't recommend drinking juices (fruit sugar is the same as table sugar, as far as calories go; "natural" doesn't really mean healthier), 4-6 ounces a day is the maximum I tell anyone to drink. So if you need ONE more serving, go ahead, have a small glass of orange juice (or whatever juice you like).

Hopefully these suggestions are helpful for you. One of my newsletters, has a wonderful, colorful handout entitled "Eat From The Rainbow." When in doubt, think about the rainbow, and see if you can find one fruit and/or vegetable from each color, and add it to your diet.

Here's to your health!

Guide in Purchasing All Natural Skin Care Products

Today, thousands of skin care products are manufactured and sold in various markets worldwide. These products are available in hundreds of beauty and skin care establishments like stores, malls, salons, spas, etc. Products as such are continuously booming due to the increasing demand for skin care treatments and products by beauty-conscious men and women each year.
Beauty and skin care products have different variants. These personal enhancement products are also categorized as either artificial/conventional or natural skin care products. Since the conventional beauty and skin care products can be quite expensive, many people choose to buy certified all natural skin care products instead. Not only these products are less expensive, but they are also a lot safer to use compared to conventional skin care products.

Now, if you are thinking of using all natural skin care products for your everyday personal use, remember that there are a lot of things to consider when buying these kinds of cosmetic/beauty items. You just can't go and grab the first natural skin care product you find in the mall or store. See, not all organic or natural skin care products are legitimate or certified. Note that hundreds of such products are distributed and sold in many markets.

As such, below is a guide for consumers on purchasing all natural skin care products:

1. Determine your skin type. The first thing you need to do before heading to your nearest beauty and health store is to know your skin type. This is really important since all skin and beauty care products are developed to match certain skin types. Hence, if you just use any type of product without knowing your skin type, irritation, blemishes, dryness, and other complications may happen to your skin.

2. Talk to your dermatologist. Another important thing to do before shopping for natural skin care products is to talk to your dermatologist first. Your doctor is the one who can tell you what skin type are you. Upon confirming this, your doctor can then tell you of the skin care variants that are applicable and safe to use on your skin.

3. Read product labels carefully. When you already determine what skin type you are and you already know which skin care variants are applicable to your skin, you are now more than ready to shop for the all natural skin care products you need. Once you already found your prospect products, read and compare all labels carefully to know which one best suits your needs.

In addition, reading the product labels carefully is a good way of determining which ones are hoax and certified products. Remember that not all products claiming to contain all natural ingredients are purely organic. So it really pays off when you take the time to study the product labels first before purchasing any product.

4. Never ever fall for the so-called "miracle" skin care products. There are numerous skin care products in stores today that pose false advertisements of their so- called miracle ingredients. There are really no such thing as miracle ingredients in beauty and skin care products. Majority of these hoax products promise immediate results to consumers. Hence, stay away from these products.

A Health Savings Account Can Help You Set Your 2008 Health Goals

Summary: Learn how to use a Health Savings Account (HSA) strategy to improve your overall health in 2008. Learn ways to maximize the growth of your HSA while motivating yourself to become a healthier individual.
People who have a Health Savings Account benefit from lower premiums and reduced income taxes. But the biggest long-term benefit for many will be the hundreds of thousands of dollars they will have in their Health Savings Accounts as they enter their retirement years. Of course, the only way to build up a significant amount in your HSA is to fund it every year, get a good return on your money, and avoid making withdrawals. And the easiest way to avoid withdrawals is to stay in good health.

People have much more control over their health than most of them realize. If you want to take more personal responsibility for your health, forget your New Year's "Resolutions" (if you're like most, you probably already have!), and make some real goals to improve your health and prevent future degeneration.

You Have the Power

The first step in the journey towards optimum health is to realize that you, indeed, do have the power to influence your health as you age. While the genes you inherited from your parents do affect your risks, for most diseases this influence is tiny compared to the role your lifestyle plays.

Here's the way it plays out for the average American: by the time they are in their 30's or 40's, most are on at least one regular prescription drug - typically cholesterol medication, blood pressure medication, and/or Viagra. By their 60's, most people are basically falling apart, on 2 or 3 medications, and suffering from arthritis pain, obesity, depression, insulin resistance, and a host of other complaints. Within 10 years, many are dropping like flies.

But of course it doesn't have to be this way.

Imagine the Future

How do you imagine your life playing out? Pour yourself a beer (do it now, before we get to the part where we actually write out lifestyle goals), kick back, relax, and dream. Imagine that you're 70 years old. Are you still in vibrant health, playing tennis, running on the beach? Or are you old and fat, with just enough energy to get off the couch and make it to the refrigerator and back during the Wheel of Fortune commercial?

Then imagine checking your Health Savings Account balance. Does it have $350,000 in it, or $350? If you're not in the best health, chances are your HSA won't be either.

If that's too far in the future, just imagine January 2009, and where you'd like to be. It's mostly your choice.

How Are You Going To Get There?

Once you've imagined the perfect future, it's time to get serious about getting there. And the key here is to focus on lifestyle habits, not end results.

Diet

Nothing is more important to your long-term health than eating a healthy diet. So your focus, as much as possible, should be the quality of your diet.

Base your diet on real, whole, unprocessed foods. Fruits, vegetables, fish, lean meat, nuts. Until 10,000 years ago, humans did not have access to bread and potatoes. It is only in the past 100 years that we've begun eating high quantities of sugar, corn syrup, white flour, and other modern foods.

If losing weight is one of your objectives, going on a diet is NOT the answer. Chances are you've tried that before, and you know it doesn't work. But what does work is permanently changing your eating habits, and where most people get stuck is they start out with a feeling of denial. Whether it's wings and beer, or Twinkies and root beer, whatever you eat that's gotten you to this point is probably what you feel like you "deserve" to eat, and you may feel that it's not "fair" that you won't get to eat this way anymore.

Get over it. The fact is that no one eats that way without consequences. Instead, choose to eat good food. Not temporarily, or just until you lose the weight. Don't tell anyone that you are "on a diet". Tell them that this is the way you eat, period.

Exercise

We are built to move, and anyone can improve their body's functioning by moving more. The basics: muscle strength, cardiovascular fitness, and flexibility.

Here's what your prescription should be:

1. Lift weights 3 times per week. Join a gym, or simply buy some 20 and 30 lb dumbbells. Each week make sure you work out your arms and shoulders, chest and back, and legs.

2. Do something aerobic 3 times per week, for 20 minutes or more. Don't just go for a stroll, but actually do something that makes you breathe hard - whether it's jogging, rollerblading, basketball, or whatever.

3. Stretch every night. Five minutes or less ought to do it.

The Power of Written Goals

So at this point you should have two ideas in your head. One is a picture of you at some point in the future. How will you look, how will you feel, and how will you function? The other is the permanent lifestyle changes you plan to implement to get you there.

Now is the time to put it on paper. This is a powerful exercise that will make your thoughts more "real," and more likely to come to fruition.

First, write out a detailed description of your future, exactly as you would like it to be.

Then write out your lifestyle habits in positive wording. What kind of food are you going to eat? What kind of food are you going to have around the house? Where and when will you eat out, and what kind of food will you order?

Remember, it is very difficult to make changes if you have feelings of denial. Fighting hunger is virtually impossible. Instead of focusing on what you won't eat, focus on what you will eat, and on the end result. And if you want to splurge on some Ben and Jerry's occasionally, go ahead.

How Much Will You Have In Your HSA When You Retire?

In 2008 the maximum annual HSA contribution is $5800 for families. If a family makes the maximum contribution each year, gets an 8% return on their money, and has $500/year in medical expenses, they'll have $261,885 in their HSA after 20 years. If they have $3000/year in medical expenses, they'll only have $138,354 after 20 years.

Stay healthy, get wealthy. They certainly go together. And with looming Medicare insolvency, you will certainly want to have as much of your own money available to pay future medical expenses when they do happen.

At one time it wasn't uncommon for me to have wings and fries for dinner, washed down by a few beers. At other times it was beer for dinner, supplemented by a few wings. Amazingly, the human body is able to take these raw ingredients, and produce eyes, lungs, heart, and everything else that keeps us going. But if we were able to look more closely, we'd see poor ingredients produce a poorly functioning body.

If optimum health hasn't been a focus in your past, make 2008 a year of change. You'll be glad you did.

Basic Health Considerations for Traveling

Traveling is an adventure in itself. You will possibly travel somewhere you’ve never been and will be learning a new culture as well. Along with all the fun you experience, you also need to be aware of a few basic health considerations when traveling that will help you to enjoy yourself throughout the entire vacation.
The first thing you need to be aware of is the condition of the water in the country that you are visiting. You definitely do not want traveler’s diarrhea to disrupt, or even ruin, your vacation. While traveling in the US you are usually fine with the water you drink, but when vacationing in other countries the water purity is typically much different. It can be contaminated or simply contain bacteria that your body isn’t used to. It is advisable there to drink bottled water and to avoid city water whenever you can.

Vitamins help to keep your immune system strong, so before your vacation you should establish a daily regimen. Continue taking them even after your vacation. Multivitamins are sold everywhere and are great for supplementing your body with all the essential nutrients it needs for general health.

If you are traveling somewhere with a different climate from what you are used to, make sure you prepare yourself. If the weather is expected to be particularly cold, it is wise to bring enough warmer clothing to protect yourself from the elements. By doing a little research prior to your departure, you can discover the likely temperature ranges, whether it is going to rain or snow, and generally what you'll need to be comfortable, warm, and dry.

Finally, do not overlook the most visible part of your body …#34; your skin. If you are going to a warm climate with a lot of sun exposure, you need to remember your sunscreen. Getting sunburned is uncomfortable at best and can limit the activities you do if you can’t go outside anymore. (Increasing your risk of skin cancer should also always be a motivating concern.) So be prepared, and keep a bottle of sunscreen with you at all times. You may also need insect repellant as well. No matter where you go, there are going to be mosquitos outside if it is warm; so instead of itching yourself raw, bring protection with you.

Following these measures will make your trip that much more enjoyable and allow you to disengage from concern over potentially bad travel events while helping you enjoy the time of you life.

Bodyweight 100 Workout

The Bodyweight 100 challenge was featured in Men's Health magazine in January 2008. This workout is the initial stage in a much longer and more challenging program called the Bodyweight 500. But that's getting ahead of ourselves.
Now time to get started going through the fat burning circuit workout. Do your regular workouts on Monday and Wednesday, and then try the 100 workout on a Friday or Saturday.

Don't jump around between movements. Get all the reps done, then on to the next. Take as few breaks as possible, but you don't have to do all of the repetitions in an exercise without stopping. That would be asking a little too much!

20 Prisoner Squats

20 Pushups

10 Jumps

10 Inverted Rows (aka Reverse Pushups or Bodyweight Rows)

20 Forward Lunges (10 reps per side)

15 Close-grip Pushups

5 Chin-ups or Inverted Rows

Prisoner squats require you to put your hands behind your head, like a prisoner would. Keep your elbows back, and shoulder blades together. From there, do regular bodyweight squats. Squat all the way to parallel.

Follow that up with regular pushups, keeping your body in a straight line at all times. Keep your abs braced and contracted. Push with your chest and triceps to return to the start position.

Be very careful with the explosive jumps. If you have sore knees, skip these. Otherwise, jump athletically and bend your knees when you land. Bend your knees upon landing, and in one motion drop your hips and jump up again.

Follow that up with inverted rows, also known as reverse pushups. In this exercise, you'll lie under a bar set at hip height (in a squat rack or smith machine) and you will row your body up to the bar. Try to touch your chest at the top of the movement. Squeeze your shoulder blades together.

Next up is forward lunges. Take a slight larger than normal step forward, plant your foot, and drop your hips straight down while bending your front and back knees. Lower until your front thigh is parallel to the floor, and keep your back knee 1 inch off the ground. Drive back up to the start position through your front leg.

Close-grip pushups follow that up. Keep your hands shoulder width apart, and this will use your triceps more.

Whew. Ready to end this thing? Just one bodyweight exercise left. Chinups. Chinups are the underhand grip version of pullups, and of course, are an advanced exercise.

This bodyweight workout will put turbulence on your muscles and help you burn fat and boost your metabolism without slow boring cardio.

This is a revolutionary new way of burning bodyfat using bodyweight exercises. Fat burning circuits will kick your butt but burn off belly fat as fast as anything. So its worth it.

Take your time going through the Bodyweight 100 workout. Split the reps up into chunks if you need to, but complete all repetitions for an exercise before moving on to the next. And you won't need any cardio to finish up this workout. This workout is enought to burn the fat and feed the muscle.

Bottles of Pills: Medication Options for Autistic Patients

As with any illness, disease, or disorder, there are a number of medicine options available to help control these symptoms. It is important to remember that none of these medications will “cure” autism; they simply help control some of the effects of the disorder. There are advantages and disadvantages to each drug, as they all have side effects as well as benefits. When choosing medicines to effectively treat autism, your doctor can make recommendations, but since autism is a disorder which varies from person to person, you should use drugs very carefully, watching to see how the body reacts to the treatments.
First, consider the safety of the drug. Some cannot be used in children or in people under a certain weight. Make sure the dosage is easy to understand and before you choose one medicine or another find out how it is administered (pills, injections, liquid, etc). This is important if you are not comfortable with certain methods, such as injecting yourself or your child. Also find out how safe the drug is to individuals who do not suffer from autism. If you have small children in the house, you’ll want to be sure that the drug is not lethal if it gets into the wrong hands. Find out what to do in case this happens, just to be on the safe side.

Also consider the side effects of the drugs you are considering. While they may be very good at controlling aggression, responsiveness, hyperactivity, or other autistic tendencies, they may also cause sedation or other side effects such as nausea or dizziness. Weigh your options carefully before beginning one of these treatments, or you could find yourself with ten bottles of pills, each taken to counteract the side effects of another. Also remember that medications may have long-term effects. Will you or your child become dependent on the drug? Will you be tolerant? How else will it affect the body over time? These are all important questions to ask your doctor before beginning any medication.

You can research the many studies on these drugs at your local library or on the Internet. Publications such as journals and healthcare magazines are probably most current and most reliable, whereas you may get some altered information on the World Wide Web, so be careful about following advice you find without first consulting your doctor. He or she may also be able to provide you with literature about the medication options available for autistic patients. Do your researching on the many choices before making any decisions, and you’ll be able to better control your health.

The Importance of Health and Body Image

We see images in the media almost every day of what the 'perfect' body 'should' look like. Today's teens in particular are assaulted on television, in magazines or on the Internet with images of the 'perfect' body. Our body image is often based on what others look like or what we perceive others look like and how that relates to our goals and aspirations for our bodies.
What is body image? Our body image is just that... an image of what we see as our bodies. It's the way we think about our body and how we think others see it. This awareness and perception is often based on appearance and function. People with a good body image will often see themselves as attractive to others while those with a poor body image will see themselves as unattractive or even repulsive to others.

Body image isn't unchanging. It is ever ever-changing and commonly not based on fact but rather determined by our self-esteem and psychological in nature. Our body image is sensitive to our emotions, our moods, our water weight retention. We ascertain how to comprehend our body image through interaction with our families and friends but this only reinforces what is acquired culturally.

Our body image is also not grounded on the opinions of others. While some people with great body image may be thought of as unattractive by others while those with a poor image of their bodies might be rated as extremely attractive.

In today's media driven culture, women are starving themselves and their children, they binge eat or binging and purging. Their children are watching closely to learn what is body image and how to integrate it into their lives. When children are learning from parents whose body image is closely tied to what they perceive as perfection it is no wonder that we are raising a generation of children who aspire to perfection to the point they become anorexic, starve themselves, constantly diet and never eat a nutritious well-balanced diet.

Particularly in their teen years young girls self-esteem is intimately linked to their body image. Self-esteem is how much value people place on themselves, their pride and how worthwhile they feel in themselves. Body image is often tied to self-pride for young teenage girls.

To alter your body image you don't need to change the way you look, feel, act or live - but you do have to change the way you think of yourself and how attractive you consider yourself to be. Your body is yours. You can't replicate the current top model and they can't duplicate you. Nor do you want to because without variety this world would be pretty darned tedious. First be certain that your weight is within healthy bounds and then set about altering what you can and learning to value the diversity of the rest. For example, you can't change your shoe size or your height but if you feel your legs are too flabby it isn't something that several hours a week in the gym won't cure.

The actual goal should always be your health and not your body image. Whether you are undertaking to achieve a healthy weight or healthy toned body the goal should be health. When you take your eyes off of the half-starved, lipo-suctioned, surgically enhanced television stars you'll realize that your body is beautiful.

When you hear yourself saying negative things about yourself - STOP! You can be your own worst enemy and your biggest fan, rather chose to be your biggest fan.

The Importance of Fiber for Weight Loss and Health

We live in a time when most of our food sources are composed of convenient, fast, and processed foods. In addition to the chemicals and preservatives added, this has resulted in food with less nutritional value. One of those nutritional values is the lowered amounts of natural fiber. One of the disturbing health concerns that has resulted from this is that we have had an enormous increase in the number of people, especially young people, wh are overweight or obese. Excess weight leads to other physical health concerns and also emotional health concerns, i.e. self image and esteem.
People without excess weight concerns consume about 33% more dietary fiber than people who suffer weight issues. There are good reasons that people who consume more dietary fiber do not experience weight concerns. When soluble fiber combines with water, it swells the stomach giving a greater feeling that hunger has been satisfied without adding excess calories. Fiber slows the digestion process resulting in feelings of hunger occurring less frequently and providing our bodies with the time needed to properly absorb nutrients. This eliminates the feeling of hunger and feeling the need to continue eating which leads to excess weight. Fiber reduces the occurrence of spikes in blood-glucose levels which possibly leads to insulin insensitivity and food cravings. Fiber may also reduce the absorption of fat. Fiber also lowers cholesterol levels which is a serious concern for people with excess weight. High cholesterol in bile is responsible for the formation of gallstones that lead to pain and gallbladder surgery. Fiber lowers cholesterol as effectively as statin drugs, which carry the risk of harmful side effects.

Most of us consume half of the dietary fiber that we need. Lack of dietary fiber is associated with health concerns such as hemorrhoids, cancer, diabetes, varicose veins, heat dissease, appendicitis and chronic constipation. Chronic constipation is a huge complaint of many people, especially older people, and accounts for millions of visits to a doctor and is among the most frequently given reasons for the purchase of prescription or patient, synthetic drugs with their possible harmful side effects. Antacids often contain aluminum and synthetic painkillers and antidepressants may actually cause constipation. Fiber contributes greatly to the healthy function of our digestive system by removing sludge, mucus, heavy metals and fat and relieving constipation and/or diarrhea which is essential for weight loss. Fiber protects against diverticulosis by keeping waste soft and easy to eliminate. Straining hard to eliminate waste contributes to diverticulosis and also hemorrhoids.

Since many of our processed and fast foods contain little fiber, we can increase our fiber intake with the use of supplements that contain additional amounts of fiber and also contribute in many other ways to our health as well as assisting us in reducing and maintaining our weight.

Oat bran fiber contains a great deal of soluble fiber that forms a gel which produces a soft easy flow of the contents of our stomach and small intestine. This helps decrease constipation distress. The gel delays our stomach emptying giving us a longer feeling of our hunger being satisfied helping with weight loss. Oat bran fiber is also very effective in lowering cholesterol levels by attaching to cholesterol and eliminating it. People who consume oat bran fiber are far less likely to become overweight.

Apple pectin is a fiber that can be obtained in supplement form. It is a powder obtained from dried apples. Apple pectin lowers cholesterol levels, helps prevent hardening of the arteries, diabetes and may inhibit cancer metastases. Apple pectin corrects constipation and promotes digestive health including promoting the health of intestinal flora. Apple pectin is tolerated by most people with allergies.

Green foods can be obtained in supplement form and contain good amounts of fiber. In addition, green foods provide antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, active enzymes, bioflavonoids, chlorophyll and other phytonutrients necessary for cellular metabolism, repair and protection, enhanced digestion and absorption of nutrients, and detoxification. All this is vital for health and weight loss. Most of us do not get a good amount of green foods that we need because of our modern eating habits.

Flaxseed oil is one of the best choices of high fiber food. Mucilage is the unique soluble fiber in flaxseed that absorbs moisture and forms mucilagenous substance that cleans and soothes intestinal walls and relieves many intestinal discomforts. Flaxseed oil contains many vitamins, minerals and other elements that contribute to balancing blood sugar levels as well as other benefits. Balancing blood sugar levels is very important for weight loss and energy as well as a feeling of well being. Flaxseed oil lowers cholesterol and triglycerides. It helps satisfy hunger with few calories and reduces the absorption of fats.

Many of us have experience the benefit of using fiber to lose weight.. We come to know the use of fiber for weight loss as "fiber trimming" or "fiber thin". In addition, we have experienced many other very important health benefits from fiber beyond weight loss. The way foods are being processed for convenient consumption, little preparation and for long shelf life makes it difficult for us to obtain proper nutrition and health benefit without using natural health supplements. This is also true of our obtaining a healthy amount of fiber in our diets. Green foods, oat bran, apple pectin, and flaxseed oil are easily obtainable in supplement form. The cost, economically and emotionally, of obtaining natural health supplements to gain and maintain good health is far less than the cost of illness and medical care where we risk the possibility of harmful side effects from prescription, patient, synthetic drugs and medical procedures. Fiber each day, keeps the doctor away. Prevention is far less expensive in so many ways, than repair. We can lose weight, improve our health and feel far better about ourselves with the use of supplemental dietary fiber.

Jacuzzi - Why buy one

Why should you buy a Jacuzzi style Hot Tub is the sixty four million dollar question.
Hot Tubs are of course fun and luxurious and I am sure we can all see our selves enjoying a Hot Tub with our friends and family.

Many people use a Hot Tub as a focal point in their Garden or on their terrace and it is a great place to chat and enjoy the company of your friends and family. They do, of course, make a great meeting place for the growing family whatever their age. While the idyllic picture that I am painting is a very real one there are of course great benefits that arise from owning a Hot Tub that go far beyond the social and entertainment side of things.

With the ever increases in daily stress levels coupled with the continual rising costs of medical care many people are quickly learning to embrace or should I say re-embrace natural healing such as Reflexology , Hydro massage and Hydrotherapy of all which can be obtained from a Hot Tub. Spas provide important hydrotherapy as a result of the principles of buoyancy, semi-buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure and that lovely warm water.

With a Hot Tub you can benefit from the very many health benefits from your spa/hot tub for a lifetime - anytime you want - in the privacy and comfort of your home and not only that but of course, you can have great fun at the same time while you're doing it by including your family and friends!

I think it is true to say that Stress increases every day and sometimes it is difficult even just finding a parking place or catching a train. With every day stress and tension placing pressure on your muscles and tendons and at the same time putting your and mind into endless knots?

What can you do? Well it is so simple to just slip in to a warm naturally bubbling hot tub for an instant dose of respite. Well the other sixty four million dollar question is how does it provide health benefits well to put it into simple terms the warm water provides heat which helps to dilate the blood vessels in the Human body. This will go a long way to help to reduce blood pressure.

This means that the flow of blood and with it comes oxygen and other nutrients whose flow is also increased and as a by product this helps to increase the elimination of poisons and toxins form the body.

The combination of warm water with jetted pulsating water and air jets provides a natural environment that is able to soothe the agitated mind and at the same time reduce aches and pains in the body such as stiffness in the joints and muscle soreness. Air Jets help to reduce and eliminate blue veins in the lower legs and feet by increasing the blood flow in the area which is the furthest away from the Heart.

Not surprisingly, it has been suggested that by using a Hot Tub regularly say a few hours before going to bed that this greatly enhances the quality of ones sleep. It has also been reported in a Medical Journal that soaking for say 30 minutes every day can help reduce blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.

In summary I suppose that when you use a Hot Tub you have to put everything else on hold - even if only for a short time. Hopefully you will not get interrupted by your house phone or your cell phone and you will not be sitting at a computer or have your lap top on your lap!! That way your whole mind and body can relax and whilst pleasant music is nice when using a Hot Tub television, in my view, destroys the idea of relaxation.

Background of the Popular Mangosteen Superfruit

Lately you may have been hearing a lot about Mangosteen, Mangosteen Juice, Mangosteen Fruit and even Blue Mangosteen. What's it all about and should you be interested? What it's about is the fruit of a tree that is famed for produce health benefits for a variety of people. Should you be interested? Probably. Here is some technical information about the fruit. We will discuss its alleged benefits in the next article.
Mangosteen juice comes from a tropical evergreen tree, believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands of the Malay Archipelago and the Moluccas Islands of the Republic of Indonesia. The tree grows from 7 to 25 meters tall. The rind of the edible fruit is a deep reddish purple when ripe. The fragrant edible flesh of the fruit is sweet and creamy, citrusy with some peach flavor. Mangosteen is closely related to other edible tropical fruits such as button mangosteen and lemondrop mangosteen and has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic, Chinese and folk medicine to treat dysentery, diarrhea, inflammation, skin disorders and other ailments.

The juvenile mangosteen fruit does not require fertilization to form and first appears as pale green or almost white in the shade of the canopy. As the fruit enlarges over the next two to three months, the rind color deepens to darker green. During this period, the fruit increases in size until it is 6-8 centimeters in outside diameter, remaining hard until a final, abrupt ripening stage.

While it is immature, the fruit discourage infestation by insects, fungi, plant viruses, bacteria and animal predation by having a subsurface chemistry that comprises an array of acids and tannins that assure astringency. Color changes and softening of the rind are natural processes of ripening that indicates the fruit can be eaten and the seeds are finished developing.

Mangosteen produces a perishable, short-lived seed that must be kept moist to remain viable until germination. Technically nucellar in origin and not the result of fertilization, mangosteen seeds germinate as soon as they are removed from the fruit and die quickly if allowed to dry.

Once the developing mangosteen fruit has stopped expanding, chlorophyll synthesis slows and the next color phase begins. Initially streaked with red, the skin pigmentation changes from green to red to dark purple, indicating the final ripening stage. The ripening process takes place over a period of ten days as the quality of the fruit peaks.

The edible insides of the mangosteen has the same shape and size as a tangerine 4-6 centimeters in diameter, but is white. The fruit contains 4-8 segments, the larger ones harboring seeds that are inedible unless roasted. On the bottom of the rind, raised ridges correspond to the number of inside sections.

For centuries, the people of Southeast Asia have treasured the Mangosteen fruit for its many life-sustaining benefits. In fact, the Mangosteen fruit is considered the "Queen of Fruits". Recent scientific findings support the wisdom of these traditional healers.

Recent scientific inquiry has revealed the extraordinary benefits of the Mangosteen and its rich supply of antioxidants called Xanthones.

Studies have identified approximately 200 different types of Xanthones, and the Mangosteen fruit contains an amazing 43 of them! The antioxidant Xanthones found in the juice of the Mangosteen fruit have powerful antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help to neutralize and eliminate free radicals, and may help combat age-related degeneration of cells and body tissue.

Some commonly reported benefits of Mangosteen Juice include: *Prevention of premature aging *Facilitates weight loss and increased energy levels *Increased flexibility in joints *Reduced pain associated with common ailments

The following article will take a look at the claimed benefits of the Mangosteen.

Advice About Natural Health Remedies - Natural Treatment for Menopause

In recent years, there has been a trend towards using natural methods for healing ourselves and staying healthy. More and more people are looking to alternative medicine for cures from colds to cancer. One of the largest growing sectors in alternative health care is women searching for other options for treating the symptoms of menopause.

All too often hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has uncomfortable side effects. The hot flashes, mood swings and headaches are bad enough; women do not need additional symptoms piled on top of what they already have. This is the biggest reason that more and more women are looking at herbal and homeopathic remedies. There is still a lot of research to be done, however there is a lot of evidence supporting the effectiveness of natural remedies.

The most popular and effective natural treatment comes in the form of herbs. Plants like black cohosh and red clover contain a class of phytoestrogens that simulate the hormone estrogen in the human body. Soy is also said to possess some of these phytoestrogens and can be beneficial as well. It has been documented that by consuming a regular dose of soy products can be as effective as some prescription drugs used when treating menopausal symptoms. Other natural sources are flaxseed oil, chaste berry, ginseng and the Chinese herb, dong quai.

Black cohosh, unlike some of the other herbs used to treat menopause, does not have any phytoestrogen. This herb has no hormonal effect on the menopausal woman. Yet when this herb is ingested it has proven to alleviate hot flashes, night sweats, headaches, and a few other symptoms. The question researchers asked was, how did black cohosh do this? Apparently, black cohosh prevented the symptoms from happening at all by directly affecting the pituitary gland's secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH).

In today's world we have all become accustomed to instant results. Take a pill, swallow some liquid and within a few minutes or hours you can begin to feel some relief. When dealing with herbal remedies the opposite is true. For the herbs to work they have to build up in the body over a three to four week period. This process can be time consuming and tedious, but be patient, the results and added peace of mind are worth it.

Natural Healing Information - Something Juicy About Natural Health Remedies

Many were introduced to juicing back in the late 1980's through natural food stores. This type of juicing isn't the same as the abuse of steroids that you hear bodybuilders doing. Juicing, in this case, is using the juice from fresh fruits and vegetables to compliment your diet. Juicing can be fun and it also has many health benefits.

The theory behind juicing is a simple one. By extracting the juice from a fruit or vegetable, you are taking in the valuable nutrients without all the work of having your body break down the fibers (although preparing the produce can be quite a bit of work!). When you take the juice in this state, you are not losing any vitamins or minerals that might otherwise be lost through a pasteurization process or from having the juice sit on the shelf and deteriorating. Another benefit is you can consume far more fruits and vegetables in one sitting than you ever could by eating them whole. Have you ever tried to eat five carrots, two apples, a pear and a bit of ginger? It is not easy, however if you were to put those same items through a juicer you could fill a glass with the juice and consume them all at once! This is definitely a plus for those of us that do not enjoy eating fruits or vegetables.

To start with, you will need a good juice machine. The ones you see in the health food juice bars are massive and the bars need those to handle the large amounts of produce they juice on a daily basis. You will not need something quite that industrial. Prices range anywhere from $100 to $1,000, you can find one that suits your budget. Try not to get a cheap one you will regret it. A low-end juicer won't have enough power and will get clogged easily and you will end up frustrated with it. Get good quality; a juicer in the $150 to $200 range is usually sufficient. When the Juiceman juicer first came out this was a good, solid machine, capable of handling daily use, and since the late 80's they have no doubt improved.

Preparing your produce for juicing is probably the most time consuming part of the whole process. Fill your sink with cold water, squeeze half a lemon into the water and add some salt (a couple of tablespoons). Let your produce soak for about ten minutes. There are also some products in the health food stores designed specifically for washing produce should you decide to try that. One way of dealing with removing the wax from fruits like apples, one source suggests that you dip the fruit or vegetable into boiling water for approximately five seconds. While organic produce is expensive, you might want to get your apples from a natural market where they do not wax produce such as apples or cucumbers.

Coming up with new combinations of juices can be fun. You want to choose produce that has high water content to begin with. Produce such as apples, oranges, carrots, celery, cucumbers and pears are a few of the popular choices. You can juice melons, but they tend to be mushy and clog the filter and you have to make sure that you cut the rinds off. Garlic and fresh ginger also work well, but treat them as you would when using them as spices in cooking. Use garlic and ginger sparingly, they have great nutritional value, but they can easily overpower the flavor of your juice. There is also what is called "green" juice made from such produce as kale or wheat grass. These green juices have a very strong flavor and you don't need to make them in large servings.

Wine Wins A Body Battle And Helps Your Health

When you receive the Seal you will begin to eat healthier foods. Yet even if you do eat foods high in fat, new scientific studies show how eating some healthy foods along with them can reduce their bad effects on your body.
Researchers are working on prescribing additives to meals. These additives would reduce the harmful effects of a bad meal on the body. Foods high in fat have an immediate harmful effect on the body.

When you eat a fatty meal, like a fast-food meal, your body afterward experiences a period of oxidative stress. When oxidative stress happens your body can be damaged on a cellular level.

Oxidative stress happens when reactive oxygen is produced in the body (after a fatty meal for instance.) If your body is capable of fighting the reactive oxygen then your cells will not be damaged.

But a fatty meal alone will cause oxidative stress within the body, and without anything else added to the diet, free radicals will damage cells in the body. This is where antioxidants come to the rescue.

Antioxidants fight the free radicals and stop them from damaging your cells. One key kind of antioxidant is polyphenols, which were used in this study. The polyphenols helped stop the toxic reaction in the body after a fatty meal.

In the study, men and women were fed turkey with water (in the control group.) The other meals were turkey with polyphenols added before and after cooking.

The polyphenols in the study were in wine that was added before and after cooking the turkey, and at both those meals the subjects drank one glass of wine after the meal.

Researchers measured the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the subjects at different times before and after eating those different meals. MDA is the "biomarker" for oxidative stress.

Free radicals degrade lipids (fats) in cell membranes, thus damaging the cells. The end-result of this degradation and damage is the production of MDA. So when MDA is present, it shows there has been cell damage (oxidative stress) in the body.

Researchers found that there was nearly five times as much MDA in the body after the meal of just the turkey meat. But the meals with wine added showed no MDA, indicating that there had been no cell damage occurring.

So you can eat fatty meals without immediate cell damage to your body if you include antioxidants, especially polyphenols. Polyphenols are found in fruit, tea, wine (and beer), chocolate, and some nuts and vegetables.

When you are sealed you will begin to take better care of your health. You can do most of the work by changing your diet. You need to eat healthier food and eat less food at the same time.

It is not surprising that wine is shown to be so protective when you eat something else along with it that tries to damage your body. Jesus called the wine of the Last Supper His Blood.

The Blood of Jesus saves you from your sins. And it saves your body from cell damage when you compromise and eat a less-than-perfectly-healthy meal. You will want to save your body when you receive the Seal.

Why should I Diffuse Essential Oils?

Diffusing essential oils is an extremely pleasurable path to health and well being The health benefits of essential oils are innumerable, plus diffusing essential oils can and will prevent the onset of some sicknesses.
Don't be a Pessimist: I realize that there are some people out there that if there isn't something wrong with them they aren't happy. It sounds strange but it is true.

I have had a number of acquaintances who seem to have something new wrong with them each and every week of the year. It is almost as if they open a medical encyclopedia and throw a dart. Ah-Ha That is what I have.

It is very difficult to rearrange that way of thinking, however it can be done

Uplift Your Spirits: Diffusing essential oils will lift you out of your doom and gloom plus give you a brighter, clearer outlook on life

Many of my pessimistic acquaintances are amazed at how much better they feel. All those ailments they thought they had simply melted away by uplifting their spirits and taking on a positive attitude

Below is a list of essential oils that will uplift your spirit.

Orange, Bergamot, Lemon, Lemon Verbena, Melissa, Petitgrain and Neroli. Diffusing any one of these oils 15 to 20 minutes periodically thru out the day will raise your positive energy in a short amount of time.

Air Borne Illness: Many of the sicknesses we come in contact with today airborne. You simply walk into the room of someone who has the cold or flu and you can carry that virus home with you.

This is where diffusing essential oils in your home will shine. These essential oils will destroy the virus before they have the chance to run rampant through your house.

Anti-viral: Bay, Bergamot, Cardamom, Eucalyptus, Black Pepper, Cinnamon bark and Clove bud. The last three essential oils are very potent Use care when handling these oils.

Anti-Bacterial: Bay Laurel, Thyme, Oregano, Cinnamon and Clove bud. Once again the last three essential oils are very potent and care is required when handling them.

Build your Immunity: Don't you just hate it when you get sucker punched We see it all the time on Americas Funniest Home Videos. Dad is teaching his young son to play T-ball and the kid always hits a line shot to dad's groin. Oh man, if there was only a way to deflect that shot

We have a way to deflect the blows of sickness and disease by building our immune systems. Having a strong immune system will prevent you from getting sick in the first place and at the very least ease the symptoms and severity of an illness should you get sick.

The following essential oils are proven immune system builders. Bay Laurel, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Sage, Cinnamon and Oregano. Use care when handling Cinnamon and Oregano

What about Air Fresheners: There are so many different air deodorizers available today that it can be difficult to choose. From spray cans, plug-ins to those that periodically send a puff of air freshener into the room.

The power of scent is a wonderful thing. Many of these department store air fresheners will pick us up and our reaction is, Man that smells nice. The response to the aroma is instant and generally uplifting. However, this is where air fresheners and essential oils differ. Air fresheners usually only cover odors in the room. Essential oils will attack and destroy these foul odors. Air fresheners will only temporarily effect your state of mind. The chemical make up of essential oils combine with our own chemical make up to bring about lasting physical changes in our psyche. The old saying goes, Imitation is the best form of flattery. Air fresheners can only hope to imitate the pure essence of an essential oil and have virtually none of the therapeutic qualities of essential oils.

Let's Breath Easy: I cannot say that once you start diffusing essential oils that you will never be sick again. I would be crazy to make a statement like that What you will find is that by diffusing essential oils you can boost your immune system, lessen the effects of an illness and lift your spirits making it difficult for sickness and disease to attack you.

Always remember to use pure therapeutic grade essential oils for optimum results

What are the Benefits of Using Nutritional Supplements?

Does eating a healthy balanced diet alone provide all of the nutrients that the human body needs to function correctly?
There are many different types and brands of nutritional supplements available to the consumer, but what are the benefits of using these products?

These are just some of the questions people may have regarding nutritional supplementation and the purpose of this article is to answer these questions.

There are many different types of nutritional products available in the shops today and the health and wellness industry is one of the fastest growing industries at the present time. This is due to many factors including the huge increase in obesity and the increasing numbers of individuals being diagnosed with degenerative disease.

It is commonly believed (especially amongst older generations) that eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly is sufficient to maintain good health, but there is also the conflicting argument that without supplementation, many people's intake of vital nutrients falls far short of their body's requirements.

Before I discuss these issues, I would first like to give a brief overview of some of the vital nutrients that the human body needs to function correctly:

Firstly there are the macronutrients. Macronutrients include Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats. At the most simplified level, carbohydrates provide our bodies with energy, proteins are responsible for building and repairing muscle tissue and fats provide additional energy reserves and allow for the transportation of micronutrients around the body and are also necessary for the production of many hormones.

Secondly there are micronutrients. Micronutrients include vitamins (also known as anti-oxidants) and minerals. Each vitamin (A, B12, C, D, E, K, etc.) and mineral (Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, etc.) serves a specific function within the body and all of them are required for good bodily function. Deficiencies in vitamins and minerals have been identified as one of the primary factors in the development of degenerative disease, as vitamins in particular are responsible for the removal of free radicals within the body.

Free radicals are harmful molecules, which are produced by chemical reactions within the human body, as well as by factors in our external environment. They attack healthy cells causing them to break down (degenerate), in the long term potentially leading to the development of degenerative disease.

It has been suggested that in order to maintain human cells in a state of optimum health that 400 IU (International Units) of vitamin E should be consumed on a daily basis. This value is higher the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for a number of reasons:

Firstly, RDAs were established in the 1940s and were guidelines to prevent diseases such as scurvy and rickets and are considered to be considerably out of date. In addition, the external environment in which we live today contains higher levels of pollutants, radiation and other harmful substances, which significantly increases our need for anti-oxidants.

It is known that the levels of vitamins in fresh fruit and vegetables depletes over time, so in order to get the best anti-oxidative defence from our food, we would have to consume them immediately after they were picked. This is very difficult due to the nature of how supermarkets distribute their produce and the shelf lives of these products.

In addition, the process of cooking also reduces the levels of micronutrients in these particular foods.

Vitamin E is the most powerful anti-oxidant and is present in many vegetables, nuts, pulses, etc. To put this into context, an individual would have to consume 14.5 kg of spinach each day to achieve this dosage. Alternatively, 1kg or almonds would provide the optimum protection to the human cells. This example should highlight that it is very difficult to consume 400 IU of vitamin E without incorporating nutritional supplementation.

In summary, I would recommend that almost all individuals use a multi-vitamin and multi-mineral supplement in order to ensure that adequate quantities of vitamins and minerals are consumed. This can assist with correct body function and elevate energy levels throughout the day, but will also reduce free radical damage and cellular degeneration within the body.

Macronutrient supplements (i.e. proteins, meal replacements and healthy snacking options), also serve a purpose to many individuals:

An example would be for vegetarians who generally find it difficult to consume sufficient quantities of protein. In this instance, I would strongly recommend supplementing with a Soy Protein supplement. Soy protein does not contain animal products and can provide all of the essential amino acids that the body requires for building and repairing bodily tissues.

For individuals looking to manage their weight, meal replacements can provide the correct balance of nutrients in a low calorie supplement. I would not recommend that someone rely solely on meal replacements as it is important to also consume whole foods, but meal replacements can be convenient for people with busy lives.

Healthy snacking options also provide an excellent means for receiving a good balance of nutrients with little or no preparation. It would generally be much more beneficial to an individuals health to consume a high quality healthy snack bar than to purchase a snack from a convenience store.

Therefore, the use of macronutrient snack depends on an individual's health goals and personal dietary requirements.

Weight Loss Success Stories -- My Own Success Story

We read weight loss success stories in advertisements in magazines, and see the weight loss success stories on info-mercials with "results are not typical" at the bottom of the screen. It's kind of depressing sometimes.
So, I decided that I would like to share my real weight loss success story with you. My hope is that it will help motivate you on your path to weight loss, or give you the push you need to commence your own weight loss program.

For me, it all started years ago. I would diet all the time. I would see some weight come off, feel good about myself, start eating normally again and pile all the weight back on. Every diet I went on would follow this pattern. I was your classic yo-yo dieter.

A few months ago I decided enough was enough and I was going to get rid of my yo-yo habit (I kicked cigarettes years ago, so I was sure I could kick another addiction!). I commenced a new program. This program would involve eating normally. This program would not involve starvation and eventual relapse. This program would involve some exercise. I planned to not only lose weight, but become healthy. I would target weight from fat, not weight from water.

I picked up a copy of a commercially available weight loss and (more importantly) weight control program.

The essence of the program is as follows:

1. Rather than eating three meals a day, change your habits and space your meals out to six per day. 2. Do some light exercise.

There are some things you need to calculate at first and some other things you need to measure, but basically that's it!

Using this program I have managed to lose about 20 pounds in two months. I am now a shadow of my former self. Importantly, I lost this weight without going hungry. As for maintenance, there's nothing to change-- I am eating more than enough food with more than enough variety and I can have a binge when I like.

I hope this weight loss success story was motivating in some way for you and helps you find it within yourself to achieve your long-term health goals.

Golf Fitness: Better Diet For Better Golf

It's easy to forget just how important a role that diet plays in fitness, many people do so, and consequently do not consume appropriate foods. In contrast, those players who do consume an appropriate diet, are often able to dramatically boost their fitness, and thus have a significant advantage over other players in the game of golf.
Here are some tips that should assist you in improving your diet:

1. It is very important to select the right types of foods. For example, your foods must provide the appropriate amounts of all the necessary vitamins and minerals.

Here are some things to bear in mind when selcting food.

(a) Your diet should be predominantly based around breads and cereals, together with fruits and vegetables.

(b) You should consume meat and dairy in only moderate quantities. As far as meat is concerned, it is best to only eat lean meat, and you should try to remove all visible fat before eating. As far as dairy is concerned you should selected skimmed, trim, or reduced fat products.

(c) You should try to avoid, or at least limit your intake of foods high in sugar, such as snack foods and candies.

(d) You should try to avoid, or at least limit your intake of foods high in fat, such as deep-fried or many common types of take-away food.

(e) As well as avoiding fat when eating out, you should also try to avoid it at home. For example, instead of frying or deep frying foods, why not trying baking, boiling, steaming or roasting? Furthermore, try not to add excessive amounts of oil or butter when eating.

(f) Another way to cut back on fat is to always be on the lookout for low fat alternatives. You might be surprised what low fat products your supermarket offers - once you start looking for them!

2. It is always a good idea to eat breakfast. Breakfast kick starts your metabolism, and will ensure that you have sufficient energy to begin your game and continue through until the next time you eat. Ideally breakfast should include something along the lines of: a bowl of grain cereal, some toast with margarine and 100% fruit spread, or another for of low fat spread, and a piece of fruit.

3. Eating when playing can have a positive effect on your game. Snacking will aid you in keeping your energy levels up and enhancing your concentration during the game. obviously, if you eat on the course, it's important to eat healthy - pieces of fruit or cereal bars are ideal.

4. Many people do not drink enough water. If you drink plenty of water, you can ensure that you remain hydrated, which in turn will help you maintain your levels of concentration and energy. It's a good idea to have a drink before leaving your house, and then continue to drink at regular intervals. Don't wait until you start to feel thirsty - as this is a sign that your body is already become dehydrated.

Eating both the correct amount and types of food, will not only improve your game directly, but can also help you remain at the correct weight (or lose weight if necessary). Obviously being the correct weight is good for your health and fitness - and it helps with your golf too!

Fight Acne by Eating Right to Lower Blood Sugar Levels

If you are a teenager a cure for acne will likely be first on your list after finding a boyfriend or girlfriend, and most of us who have been teenagers can probably remember the misery that our perception of our looks gave us.
There have been many theories as to the cause of acne, and it is highly likely that there is more than one. The basic reason for the appearance of acne is that oils, dead skin cells and bacteria block the pores of the skin to form a variety of different types of pimples or spots, such as whiteheads, blackheads and pustules than can be irritating or painful. They can also be very unsightly, affecting the face, neck and sometimes the chest and back.

Studies have indicated that acne is caused by the over-production of sebum, a fatty oily substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of the skin to keep it supple and lubricated. If this is excessive, the sebum can block the pores causing blackheads, and become infected causing acne. So what causes this excess production of sebum? There are theories that it could be due to high insulin levels in the blood.

High insulin levels are promoted by high blood glucose levels the more blood glucose in your blood then the more insulin your pancreas produces to help covert it into energy. Higher insulin levels are also associated with high levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). The result of this is an increase in androgens (male hormones), specifically dihydrotestosterone (DHT), metabolized from testosterone. This in turn causes an increased production of sebum leading to acne.

The complete chain, therefore, begins with increased levels of glucose in your blood and ends in acne. In order to prevent acne you would have to break this chain anywhere in its sequence, and the only viable place to do this is at the beginning reduce your blood glucose level. In order to achieve this you would have to determine what foods you are eating that could cause an excessively high level of glucose in your blood.

Glucose is metabolized from carbohydrates, ranging from complex carbohydrates to refined sugar. However, those that you should try to avoid are the refined carbohydrates such as pasta, white bread, rice and sugar. These are what are known as the high glycemic index foods that can cause a sharp rise in your blood glucose levels when consumed. The complex carbohydrates take longer to be metabolized and are not so prone to producing sudden increases in your sugar levels. These lead to more sustained and gradual increases in blood glucose that demand a steady insulin supply, rather than the sudden increase that can lead to acne. Such foods include high fiber whole grains, oats and the like.

Studies have indicated that twelve weeks on a diet of low glycemic index foods resulted in a significant reduction in acne symptoms when compared to a control that did not change their diet. It therefore seems likely that your nutrition can affect your acne, and that changes in your diet could lead to a significant long-term reduction in acne symptoms such as pimples, pustules and other types of lesion.

The same studies also proved a reduction in the androgen levels of those on the complex hydrocarbon diet compared to the controls, and also greater sensitivity to insulin. However, the test group also experienced a significant weight loss, and it was not conclusively proved whether the reduction in acne symptoms was due to the reduction in blood glucose levels or to the weight loss.

However, the result is in accordance with the insulin and androgen theory, and it is known that diabetes is connected with obesity, so the two might in any case be related. Acne, diabetes, and weight are all related to your blood sugar level, which is in turn related to diet and carbohydrate intake.

Although a low glycemic index diet is suggested, such a diet is not easy to apply properly, and a dietician could help you here. Persistence is the name of the game, and you will not see instant results. Note that the tests referred to above were over twelve weeks, and this is likely the minimum period you will need to stick to your diet. However, the minute you break it, and revert back to simple carbohydrates, your problem will return. There is no sudden cure, rather a continual dietary approach to the prevention of the condition. Acne is not a disease that you can catch and cure. It is a condition created by lifestyle and diet, and can only be controlled rather than cured until you grow out of it in your late teens or early twenties, although many people suffer from acne until later in life.

Your diet should include plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains and cereals, brown rice, fish, eggs and lean meats. You should avoid saturated and trans fats, and eat unsaturated fats and oils, with plenty of omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals for a good skin and good health. Exercise will help by improving the blood flow to your skin.

You can also help your condition by taking some specific supplements. Saw palmetto and zinc will help to reduce the levels of testosterone in your blood, and vitamins E and B6 are also believed to help. Selenium, pantothenic acid and essential fatty acids are other supplements that can help with acne, but your best bet is to discuss your condition with a naturopath or somebody trained in the use of natural remedies and supplements with your condition.

Many swear by tea tree oil, although treatment has to be prolonged over a length period before it becomes effective, but you might prefer this to one of the chemical testosterone blockers that can be prescribed for acne in certain cases.

Overall, acne is not a serious condition but can be disfiguring. Although you can seek medical help in the event of serious attacks, your recommended treatment initially is to eat plenty of healthy foods low in simple carbohydrates, to take the appropriate supplements and nutrients to keep you healthy and to take plenty of exercise to maintain a good blood supply to your face.

In these ways you can reduce the number, depth and lasting effects of acne pustules, and in many cases clear the condition altogether.

Improve Your Social Life with a Smile Transformation

It's been said that a great smile can change your life! The sense of confidence and self-esteem that come from an attractive smile can turn your life around, or just improve an already beautiful life! Cosmetic dentistry is all about performing quality dental procedures and correction in a way that looks natural to begin with, and furthermore, can even improve one's look through oral modifications such as bonding, veneers, bleaching, caps, implants etc. The work done through these dental improvements can turn out to be like an instant orthodontics correction in cases where patients only need a few touch ups and quick implants.
With a healthy smile, we are able to transmit the emotions within our hearts. It is very true that our smile reflects our mood, personality and even the inner health; whenever we provide a smile which is born from our hearts we give someone a reason to wonder and appreciate the beauty within ourselves. Perhaps, this is part of the reason why most of the people judge others by their smile, so without shadow of a doubt our smile can tell a lot about our personality. On the other hand, an unattractive smile can project a negative image which can affect our self-esteem. Apart from all of these facts, it is also true that an unattractive smile can be the biggest obstacle standing in our way to accomplish a successful social life.

People, who face oral health and dental structure problems, can get easily depressed and and lose their confidence (they often do). Problems such as misalignment of teeth , crooked teeth are definitively not easy to solve, however, there are many treatments and procedures that can allow a person to regain his or her lost confidence, cosmetic dentistry provides most of the solution.

Today's cosmetic dentistry procedures also include the use of Botox in order to deliver the complete solution when it comes to a "full makeover" this process can easily make anyone look 10 years younger.

Cosmetic dentistry procedures are elective, and therefore not usually covered by insurance providers. New technologies which have ben developed in this field have made it much more affordable but it is important to talk to a cosmetic dentist who will inform you about the cost of your treatment and the many options which are available to you. Many times private clinics offer easy payment plans which can range from a few months to years according to the price of the work done but regardless of expenditures, you can't simply put a price tag on a beautiful smile and the social benefits it brings.
